App store deployment: Google Play and the App Store

Publishing is a project stage of its own, with its own rules and rejections. We prepare the store listings, screenshots, privacy policy, Google Play Data safety form and App Store privacy labels, signed release builds and review responses, then run a staged rollout. We publish and update our own apps on Google Play, so this is routine work for us.

Stores
Google Play Console, App Store Connect and TestFlight
Compliance
Data safety, privacy labels, content rating, target API levels
Ownership
Published under your developer accounts, so you own the listings
Evidence
CarrySo's own apps, released and updated on Google Play

Google Play release checklist

  • Developer account and app record set up under your organisation
  • App signing configured, with keys stored safely
  • Store listing: title, short and full description, feature graphic, screenshots per device type
  • Content rating questionnaire and target audience settings
  • Data safety form that matches what the app really collects
  • A hosted privacy policy URL (we host ours on carryso.com and keep them current)
  • Target API level that meets the current Play requirement
  • Closed testing where Play requires it for new accounts, then production with a staged rollout

App Store release checklist

  • Apple Developer Program membership in your organisation's name
  • Certificates, identifiers and provisioning profiles
  • App Store Connect record, age rating and privacy nutrition labels
  • Screenshots for each required device size
  • Review notes, demo account and clear permission usage descriptions
  • TestFlight builds for internal and external testers
  • Submission, review responses and phased release

Common reasons apps get rejected, and how we avoid them

Review problems we plan for
ProblemHow we prevent it
Data safety or privacy labels do not match app behaviourWe audit SDKs and data flows before filling in the forms
Missing or unreachable privacy policyHosted policy pages, linked from the listing and inside the app
Login-gated app with no demo accountReview notes with a working test account
Subscriptions that break store rulesClear pricing, restore purchases and account deletion built in
Crashes on review devicesRelease candidates tested on physical devices before submission
Out-of-date target API levelTracked as part of maintenance, not discovered at submission

After the first release

Deployment does not end at version 1.0. Every update needs release notes, a versioned build, a rollout and monitoring. Our apps ship soft and forced update prompts driven by remote configuration, so users can be moved to a fixed version without waiting for everyone to update by hand. Our admin tooling flags any app whose last store release is getting old.

Evidence: app store deployment in our own apps

These are CarrySo's own products, published on Google Play under our developer account. Figures are taken from Google Play when this site was built; each card links to the case study.

Frequently asked questions

Should the app be published under our account or yours?

Yours. The developer account owns the listing, reviews and revenue. We work inside your Play Console and App Store Connect with the access you grant us.

How long does app store review take?

It varies by store and by app. Reviews often complete within a few days, but a rejection restarts the clock, which is why we prepare the compliance forms and review notes carefully before the first submission.

Can you handle only the publishing for an app we built?

Yes. We audit the build against store requirements, prepare the listing and compliance forms, and take it through review. If the audit finds blocking issues in the app itself, we tell you what needs to change first.
