HEIC Converter Pro: private, offline photo conversion in Flutter
HEIC to JPG Converter Pro is an Android app built by CarrySo with Flutter. It converts HEIC and HEIF photos, the default format on iPhones, into JPG, PNG, PDF or WebP in batches, on the device, while keeping EXIF metadata and original dates.
Project type: CarrySo product. HEIC to JPG Converter Pro is software CarrySo owns and publishes, not a client project. See the HEIC Converter Pro product page for features, platforms and store links; this case study covers the problem, approach and engineering.

The problem
iPhones save photos as HEIC, but many Android apps, Windows PCs, websites and print services still can't open the format.
Online converters need uploads, and many strip the capture date, which breaks gallery timelines.
The solution
Batch conversion to JPG, PNG, PDF or WebP that runs completely offline.
EXIF metadata and original dates are kept, so converted photos sort correctly in the gallery.
Key features
- HEIC/HEIF to JPG, PNG, PDF and WebP
- Batch conversion of whole albums
- Keeps EXIF metadata and original dates
- Receives files shared from other apps
- No upload, no account, no watermark

How we built it
Repository pattern around conversion
Conversion is behind a repository interface with its own tests, which keeps format logic independent of the UI and easy to extend with new output types.
Local history with Isar
Conversion history is stored locally with Isar, and the app accepts files shared from other apps through the Android share sheet.
Privacy by design
The Play Store Data safety section for the app declares that no data is collected or shared, which was possible because all processing stays on the device.
Testing
Automated tests cover conversion formats, the converter repository implementation, the history record model and a widget test.
