iOS app development with Flutter

We build iOS apps with Flutter, so the same code base that runs on Android also ships to iPhone and iPad through the App Store. An iOS project with us includes Apple Developer Program setup, iOS device testing, TestFlight builds and App Store review. Our published portfolio is currently on Google Play, and every one of those apps is built to run on iOS from the same code.

How Flutter apps run on iOS

Flutter compiles Dart ahead of time to native ARM code and renders its own widgets with Impeller, Flutter's rendering engine on iOS. The result is a normal iOS app bundle that goes through the same signing, TestFlight and App Store review as a Swift app.

Where the app needs an iOS API that no maintained Flutter package covers, that part is written in Swift and called through a platform channel. The rest of the app stays shared with Android.

What is different about an iOS release

iOS-specific work in a Flutter project
AreaWhat it involves
Apple Developer ProgramEnrolment under your own account, certificates, identifiers and provisioning profiles
Look and feelCupertino widgets or adapted Material screens, safe areas, iOS navigation gestures and the Human Interface Guidelines
PermissionsUsage descriptions for photos, camera, notifications and tracking, written in plain language for review
Push notificationsAPNs keys wired to Firebase Cloud Messaging
TestingPhysical iPhone and iPad testing plus TestFlight for internal and external testers
App Store listingScreenshots per device size, privacy nutrition labels, age rating, review notes and demo accounts
ReviewResponding to App Store review feedback and resubmitting quickly

Adding iOS to an existing Flutter app

If your app is already live on Google Play and built with Flutter, an iOS release is mostly platform setup, testing and store work rather than new development. We audit plugins for iOS support, set up the Apple side, adapt any Android-only screens, and take the app through TestFlight and review.

This is the route our own apps take: they were designed as cross-platform Flutter apps from the start, so iOS releases do not need a rewrite.

iOS project process

  1. 1. Discovery and scope

We go through who the app is for, the one job it must do well, and what can wait. You get a written scope with the screens, features, integrations and release target.

  2. 2. UX flows and interface design

We map the main user journeys before writing code, then design screens that follow Material guidelines on Android and feel right on each platform.

  3. 3. Build in short iterations

The app is built in Flutter in small increments, so you can install test builds on a real phone early and change direction cheaply.

  4. 4. Testing

Business logic, parsers and data layers get automated unit tests, and release builds are checked on physical devices before they reach users.

  5. 5. Store release

We prepare the store listing, screenshots, privacy policy, Data safety form and release build, then handle review and the staged rollout.

  6. 6. Maintain and improve

After launch we watch crashes, reviews and release age, keep SDKs and target API levels current, and ship improvements.

Frequently asked questions

Do you build native Swift or SwiftUI apps?

Our iOS apps are built with Flutter, which compiles to native code. We write Swift where the app needs an iOS API that Flutter packages do not cover, and we will tell you in discovery if your app depends so heavily on iOS-only features that a native build would serve you better.

Have you published apps on the App Store?

CarrySo's own published apps are on Google Play today. They are built with Flutter as cross-platform apps, and iOS releases use the same code base. For client projects we add Apple Developer Program setup, iOS device testing and App Store review to the written scope.

What do we need to provide for an App Store release?

An Apple Developer Program membership in your company's name, a privacy policy URL, the information for the privacy labels, and a demo account if the app needs a login. We handle certificates, provisioning, builds, TestFlight and the submission.

Can one Flutter app support both iOS and Android?

Yes. That is the main reason we build with Flutter. UI, logic and tests are shared, and platform-specific code is limited to permissions, store configuration and the occasional native plugin.
