Photography app for Android

CropFlow: a lightweight offline photo cropper built with Flutter

CropFlow: Photo Crop & Resize is an Android app built by CarrySo with Flutter. It crops, rotates, flips and straightens photos using presets for social platforms, then saves or shares them at full resolution. All editing happens on the device.

Project type: CarrySo product. CropFlow: Photo Crop & Resize is software CarrySo owns and publishes, not a client project. See the CropFlow product page for features, platforms and store links; this case study covers the problem, approach and engineering.

The problem

Cropping a photo for a story, a thumbnail or a profile picture should take seconds, but many editors are heavy, ask for sign-ups or add watermarks.

The solution

A single-screen workflow: import, crop, straighten, preview and export, with presets for common social media ratios.

A small download that edits offline with local image libraries.

Key features

  • Freeform cropping or 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, 4:5, 3:4 and 2:3 presets
  • Rotate, flip and fine straightening slider
  • Interactive crop canvas with zoom and pan
  • Undo and redo
  • Save to gallery, a chosen folder or the share sheet
  • Recent exports on the home screen; no watermark

How we built it

Riverpod-driven editor

The editor feature is the core of the app and uses flutter_riverpod for state. Undo/redo and straightening are handled as editor state rather than being scattered across widgets.

Fast, offline processing

Crop and transform operations use the image package, with heavy work kept off the UI thread so the canvas stays responsive.

Frequent, small releases

CropFlow reached version 1.0.7 within weeks of its first Play release. Our in-house release tracking flags any app whose last Play update is getting old.

Testing

Unit tests live in the test/unit folder.
