Video Players & Editors app for Android
GIF Maker: a video-to-GIF editor built with Flutter and FFmpeg
GIF Maker: Video to GIF Editor is an Android app built by CarrySo with Flutter. It converts video clips and photo sets into animated GIFs, edits them frame by frame with text, drawing, filters and speed control, and exports GIF, MP4 or WebP without a watermark.
Project type: CarrySo product. GIF Maker: Video to GIF Editor is software CarrySo owns and publishes, not a client project. See the GIF Maker product page for features, platforms and store links; this case study covers the problem, approach and engineering.

The problem
Making a good reaction GIF usually means juggling several apps: one to trim video, one to convert, another to add text.
Many free GIF makers add watermarks or give little control over frame rate, quality and timing.
The solution
One editor that covers conversion, frame-by-frame editing, text, drawing, filters and speed changes.
Export choices of GIF, MP4 and WebP, with FPS and quality controls and no watermark.
Key features
- Video to GIF with 8, 12, 15 or 24 FPS and up to 720p
- Photos to GIF with reorderable frames
- Frame-by-frame trimming, deletion and per-frame delay
- Speed from 0.25x to 8x
- Text, captions, drawing, filters and vignette
- Export as GIF, MP4 or WebP

How we built it
Media pipeline on FFmpeg
Video decoding and encoding go through ffmpeg_kit, behind dedicated media-processing, frame-cache and export services. That keeps the editor UI separate from codec work.
Bloc for a complex editor
The dashboard and editor features use flutter_bloc with explicit events and states. For an editor where many controls change the same frame data, this makes state changes predictable and testable.
Local project storage
Projects and recent files are stored locally with Isar, so work in progress survives app restarts without an account.
Testing
Automated tests cover the overlay frame catalogue, shape masks, tune catalogue and bundled font assets.
